Crash causes fireball on the V8 Supercars grid (+video)

May 3rd, 2011 by NZV8

It wasn’t exactly high speed, in fact for one car involved it was no speed, but the fiery crash that took place at the weekend’s V8 Supercars would have to be one of the most frightening ever.

When the green flag dropped, the full grid of big V8s set off, all except Karl Reindler who stalled his Commodore. Reindler was then rammed from behind by Steve Owen who had already got his car up to about 150kph by the moment of impact. The strength of the impact was enough to mash up the fuel cell in Reindler’s Holden igniting the car into flames, and send both parties spinning into the infield. The fireball was huge and both cars appeared to be blazing before Reindler managed to get out of the race car and escape with only minor burns to his hands and face. Owen was unharmed in the wreck but went and got checked out by medical staff.

If you haven’t seen it already check out the flaming crash in the video below.
