Feature Car

The competition in GT1 is tough, but the cars don’t get any tougher than Nick Chester’s new ride. Based on a brand new V8 Supercar, the Chesters Team added an extra 150hp, bigger wheels, bigger brakes and more aerodynamics. Without doubt this is the most extreme circuit car the country has ever seen.

Pontiac’s Dead

The Pontiac name may have gone for good, but we catch up with three owners who prove they wont be forgotten. A 540ci GTO Judge, a Parissenne and a GTO Judge all feature.

At the track

From the final round of Northern Muscle Cars at Pukekohe we check out another Northern Muscle car: the 72 GTS 350 HQ Monaro of Bruce McRae. Plus from the Production Muscle cars Sandra Oldhams XE Falcon.

Feature Car

This week’s feature car is also the cover car for the next issue of NZV8 Magazine; Grant Eveleigh’s stunning 1969 RS/SS Camaro. With a 640hp 540 cubic inch big block, 5-speed manual, and modern suspension along with a host of other cool features, Grant’s Camaro is without doubt one of the more complete street cars we have seen in recent times.

Shelby Super Snake

Also from the next issue is a 2008 Shelby Super Snake Mustang. With 725hp on tap, the Shelby is an absolute weapon, and the only one on this side of the globe.

The Track

The Yankee Haulers Car Club recently held a drag day at Fram Autolite Dragway, we went down to see what the Yankee Haulers are all about. While there we check out a few cool cars such as an SLR5000 Torana, an HQ Holden and a ‘69 Camaro¨ ¨ ¨Northern Muscle Cars ¨We were at the latest round of Northern Muscle Cars just last weekend, and caught up with Craig Stacey and his awesome 1971 AMC Javelin amongst others. Cool old cars, lots of sideways action. What could be better?

This weeks features car is the stunning Willys coupe Altered of Christchurch’s Alsop brothers. With an Altered chassis, doorslammer body and a blown small block Chev, this hybrid has been wowing crowds and taking records this past drag season.

Looking Back

Andy takes a look at Iconic V8’s in New Zealand, such as the Pinepac Mustangs of Bruce and Wayne Anderson. ¨Throughout the 70′s and 80′s the Anderson brothers campaigned their yellow Mustangs throughout Australia and New Zealand. Partnering with Dick Johnson at the first ever Wellington Street race in 1985, and running at Bathurst, the yellow Pinepac racing team was a regular sight at NZ’s and Australia’s touring car events. Andy heads out to Pukekohe with them and their latest creation to run a few laps and talk about the heritage of racing he and the team were involved in.

Modern Muscle

If more modern cars is what you are into. Then you will love the supercharged HSV Murph edition that we tracked down. Just how drivable is a 530kW road car? Make sure youre watching to find out.

We head back to Taupo Motorsport Park and catch up with three of the leading Central Muscle Car drivers; Paul Urqhart, Shane Wigston and series founder Steve Hildred.

Willy White

New Zealand’s fastest ever drag racer talks to us about the in’s and out’s of running a nitro funny car. With a best pass of 5.47 @ 264mph, Willy certainly isn’t afraid of showing the rest of the nation how things are done.

Taylor and Taylor

Speaking of drag racing, this years Top Doorslammer Champion Ross Taylor along with son Jason run us through the details of another one of their cars. Although it’s another ‘57 Chev, it’s certainly not as quick as the Taylor And Taylor car we all know and love.

Rat Rod

While down at the Nostalgia Drags we spied a car that certainly doesn’t look like it should be on a drag strip; Neil Surtez’s awesome rat rod. This Cadillac flathead powered machine sits its belly on the floor and lifts all four wheels off the ground, making it one serious crowd pleaser.

Nostalgia Drags

Each year at the Nostalgia’s a bunch of Aussies are bought over for the locals to go head to head against. We catch up with local drag racer Paul ‘Pins’ Satler and Aussie John Fleming to watch an epic battle of nostalgia styled front engine dragsters.

Central Muscle Cars

We hit the Taupo Racetrack with Central Muscle Cars and check out the awesome Mustang of Greg Honour. He’s managed to win one series, and come second in another, how will he go in this semi-final round?

Beach Hop

We also head back to Whangamata to enjoy a slightly slower paced event, the Beach Hop. Between checking out the cars, the bands and the girls, we catch up with the paint gurus from House Of Kolor and check out their latest innovation.

Castrol Edge brought Aussie Drag Racing Legends Victor and Ben Bray over for Beach Hop, and the Nostalgia Drags. We manage to catch up with them at both events on this weeks show.

Nostalgia Drags

Victor was super impressed with the Nostalgia Drags – he and son Ben smoke their ’57 Chev up the Meremere strip. Watch Dave Gould’s insane Fiat Topolino attempt to jump the guardrails on every pass, nasty Norris’s nostalgia rail wheels up, Paul Hammond’s VG Valiant as well as a great mix of other cars and people from the event.
