This metamorphosis has not happened by a magical transformation, more like many years of hard work, Luke Vodanovich’s HQ sure has had a change in form, structure and appearance. Luke has always liked the tough look of HQ Holdens that are built just right — and that’s what he has achieved with GASDUP.

From humble beginnings…

The Australian-assembled 202 and four-speed HQ Kingswood was imported to our shores in 1972 by Blackwell Motors in Christchurch. It spent the first 28 years of its life in the South Island, ending up in Motueka, where Luke chanced upon it. The owner used to make a bit of cash taking bets as to whether the old girl would make it up the forestry fire breaks, and then proceed to drive them. He needed some cash, Luke wanted an HQ, and for $500 the neglected old sedan headed north. The initial plan was to tidy it up and use it as a daily driver, which was fine for a while. (more…)
