Cars and Bikes for Canterbury charity event rumbles Hamilton – 30 photos

April 20th, 2011 by NZV8

The Cars and Bikes for Canterbury show held in Hamilton last weekend went off well despite some last minute changes due to wet conditions.

Whilst the wet weather resulted in a number of exhibitors cancelling at the last moment, and had an effect on public numbers, the spirit of the dedicated crew was far from dampened.

The team effort resulted in a fantastic show which featured cars and motorcycles from all disciplines of motorsport, – Drag Cars and Bikes, Hot Rods. Classic and Custom Cars, Classic Bikes, Trikes, Modern and Classic Road Race Bikes, Speedway Bikes/Sidecars, Speedway Saloon and Stock Cars, Vintage Cars, Sports cars, street machines, motorcycles, along with Trade stands, and great entertainment.

The rumble brought together a number of  well know Motorsport people including NZ’s Superbike Champion Andrew Stroud, who was one of the celebrities at the Rumble with his Suzuki having just recently celebrated his 9th win in the NZ Superbike series Title.

Cars and Bikes for Canterbury was the brainchild of Tracey Sherwin (New Plymouth) and Alan Thoresen (Hamilton).  Both are members of the New Zealand Drag Racing Association (NZDRA) and have friends and colleagues in the quake devastated region of Christchurch.  (more…)

NZHRA Hot Rod Lottery winner announced

December 14th, 2009 by NZV8

Hot Rod xmas comp

Ticket holders of the CenturyYuasa 2009 NZHRA Hot Rod Lottery waited with bated breath around New Zealand and overseas last Friday as the winner was drawn for the lottery at 1pm outside the Tauranga Police Station.

Local Motorsport enthusiast Bob Clarkson was there to make the draw, with the supervision of the Tauranga Police.

The 20,000 tickets of the sold out lottery, were bundled into the trunk of the 1930 Ford Model A Roadster which was up for grabs, Mr Clarkson was able to rummage around in the tickets to pull out the lucky winner, Dale Ross of Manukau.

Ticket Number 8869 was purchased by Dale Ross from Manukau Rod & Custom Club, a club which he has belonged to for just over 17 months. Jo Henderson of NZHRA made the call to Dale straight after the draw was made; thankfully Dale had a good grip on the ladder he was up at the time Jo called.

Dale is very much a Ford man, owning another Model A Roadster, a Jailbar and Customline, the new addition to the family of Ford vehicles will be very much at home, once Dale “has cleared some space”.

Dale’s daughter Renee, who is 11 years old and a petrol head at heart will be having a day off school next week when Dale picks up his new prize. Dale had not yet spoken to his daughter but knows that she is going to be extremely excited when she hears the news.

Presentation of the Model A Roadster to Dale will be made next week in Auckland.

Street Rod Nationals on this weekend!

November 6th, 2009 by NZV8

This weekend (November 6-9) the Century Yuasa 2009 NZHRA Street Rod Nationals is taking place in Rotorua. Sulphur City, the event’s host club, has done a fantastic job of organising what will no doubt be a huge event.

The best cars in the country, many yet unseen, will compete for over 30 trophies throughout the event.

Sulphur City Rod & Custom Club is no stranger to hosting successful events, having organised the 1999 Pre 49 Street Rod Nationals and then the 2004 Street Rod Nationals. Both events are remembered for their high entrant numbers, slick organisation and large public show days. The club and its members bring a wealth of event promotion knowledge to the 2009 event held at the Blue Lake Holiday Park, Rotorua.
