The 17^th annual Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival took place last weekend, and it was a scorcher.

Despite crowd numbers and swap site numbers being down on previous years, the event was a huge success. The new Retro area being the highlight for many. With stands such as Rita Sue vintage boutique and the Teaser Lounge amongst a mix of cool old style cars, the area was packed out both days.

Traders had a mixed response, with some saying sales were slow and others struggling to keep up with demand.

The show shed, which should feature the pinnacle of local cars was again a little disappointing, with many better cars being found outside in the outdoor display area, but Kumeu isn’t all about top level show cars, it’s about all cars and having a great time.

Has it really come back around that fast? It sure has. The 2011 Annual Kumeu Classic Car & ¨Hot Rod Festival is on this weekend so head out to Kumeu and check it out. Located at the Kumeu Showgrounds and running on Saturday and Sunday there will be trade stands, swapsites, stunt shows, a food hall, bands, licenced bar and of course indoor and outdoor car displays.

Whats on and When

Very much a family festival, the 2011 running of the Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival has plenty of attractions for young and old. The fun starts at 7.00am on Saturday January 15, and doesn’t let up until the gates close at 5.00pm the next day. Kumeu’s A&P Showgrounds is the venue, located off Access Road (off SH16) in Kumeu; signage will direct swappers, display cars and the public to the correct entrance.

The annual Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival (Kumeu Car Show) was on over the weekend, and as usual the crowds were huge. Unfortunately, the show has lost some of its magic over the last few years, and the cars turning up (or not) is proof of this. While the event still has plenty of punters through the gates, and thousands of cars, the number of high-level cars has dropped dramatically. While joe public are still no doubt impressed, those a bit more involved in the scene were left somewhat disappointed.

The talk in the swap site area was about the varying prices paid for the same-sized spaces, leaving a sour taste in many mouths. No doubt this will see less returning next year.

Perhaps it’s time the organisers made an effort to put some of the magic back into the event so that it can once again become as great as many of us remember it being.

The 15th Annual Kumeu Car Show was a success over the weekend with thousands of car fans checking out the hundreds of hot rods, classic cars and unique vehicles on display. There was great entertainment, food and sunshine for all, but you don’t need to just read about it, check out all the photos from the event in the gallery below.

The American Car Club New Zealand is working their muscles to make those Muscle Cars gleam for yet another noble quest…raising money for the ‘The Breast Cancer Research Trust’. We couldn’t help but notice that it is not the ‘Prostate Cancer Research Trust’ guys! But of course we know there is not a shred of bias.

Included with your $50 dollar donation you get your gate entry to the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod festival, food, refreshments, cocktails and other beverages…not to mention an American Muscle Car extravaganza.

So get your skates on and get down to the Kumeu Show Ground on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 of January for another not to be missed event. These guys know how to put on a show and make it hoot for the whole family. Some come along and have a day and do some serious breast saving.

Oh and it would be good if you could give Steve Noyer a yell to give him an idea of how many bus-loads of folks you’ll be bringing and on which days. It’ll help with the catering numbers.
