Heffner Ford GT breaks standing mile record with 266 mph pass

April 29th, 2010 by NZV8

Yesterday we brought you news of a highly-tuned Lamborghini Gallardo achieving a speed of 403kph over the standing mile, but now that has been eclipsed. Ford GT tuning specialist Heffner Performance broke the standing mile record earlier this week with its awesome twin-turbo machine.

At an event on a Miami Airport runway the 1,900 horsepower GT clocked a massive speed of 429 kph (266.94 mph) from a standing start. This left many crying foul and claiming that the timing equipment was incorrect. Heffner says it’s all legit and although the record is unofficial, the twin-turbo Ford GT will repeat the feat at an upcoming event

Standing mile events are increasing in popularity and are very simple in their format. You get one mile on flat, straight airport runway to go as fast as possible, with a half mile to bring your vehicle to a stop. The vehicle’s speed is recorded at the one mile mark, and that’s all there is to it.

Jason Heffner has become famous for his go-fast creations over the past few years, from his insanely powerful Lamborghini Gallardos to mindblowingly fast Ford GTs. For his latest project, Heffner has teamed up with Ford GT chief designer Camilo Pardo for a special edition version of the car that looks great and goes hard too.

Visually, the American supercar gets a new paint scheme and racing graphics, flat black BBS wheels and a replacement rear bumper. Interior, the car gets a chrome shift ball, with a wide-shifter. Under the bonnet, the GT is receives the full twin-turbo treatment as well as a Camilo-designed billet aluminum intake and black valve covers. The special Ford GT puts out over 900hp and is capable of topping 320 kph in under 20 seconds. With razor sharp looks and devastating pace this will be one coveted after Ford GT.
