1972 Corvette – Daily Grind – 60
Name: Geoff Hale
Vehicle: 1972 Corvette
Hi Geoff. I like the ’Vette, how long have you had it?
I’ve owned it 18 months; bought it ’cause it was cheap and it was there.
Have you done any work on it or did you get it like this?
It’s pretty much as it was, but I have done some tidying up, new wheels, tune, detailing, etcetera.
Is it your first muscle car?
Nah, I’ve had nearly 100 Yank cruisers including 26 ’Vettes, half a dozen Camaros, Caddys, Muzzys, heaps of Impalas…
Is it your only muscle car at the moment?
No. I have two other Corvettes (another ’72 and a ’73), a ’67 Cadillac convertible, ’67 Pontiac Catalina 428 coupe, a ’57 Bel Air four-door hardtop in progress with a blown alloy headed 540-cube big block well under way, and a Harley-Davidson F150 truck.
That’s a huge array of left-hook cars.
All our cars are left-steer and that’s all my partner Linda and I have to drive.
With all those, do you get out in the ’Vette?
Pretty much whatever is last up the drive gets the next thrashing.
I’d hate to see your monthly fuel bill.
Petrol is going to run out one of these days, so if you haven’t used your share, bad luck!
What do you do for a crust that allows you to have so many cool cars?
I’m a mechanic, but also import cars from the States and have done so for nearly 20 years.
Do you get over to the States often?
Not as often as I would like, but every couple of years minimum. Last trip we took in Bonneville, Hot August Nights, the Corvette Assembly plant, the Jack Daniel’s distillery and of course the mandatory swap meets. (more…)
