The Rayglass Boats Toyota Celica (the fastest import drag car in the world) has recently been back home in Auckland to receive a bit of a freshen up after a few seasons of racing in Australia.
Crew Chief Terry Bowden of Terry’s Chassis Shoppe along with driver Rod Harvey have spent countless hours over the last six weeks not just tidying the car up, but also changing various things. The biggest change is to the chassis of the vehicle.
Originally built as a Pro Stock car, the chassis has been modified to a Pro Mod double frame rail setup to handle the 1500+hp the car is now producing. Those who know the car will see that various items inside the cabin have been moved around for better weight distribution since the car was last seen in New Zealand, and the transmission is now airshifted also.
The nose cone of the has been repaired and repainted after damage sustained in an engine bay fire earlier this year made it look a little second hand. The car now looks as good as it ever has, and is a real testament to the high standards of the team. The Celica’s 2JZ engine has also been rebuilt, as has the spare motor, just incase. With the amount of power these guys are making, compenentry is highly stressed and engine life can be quite short, so it’s best to be prepared.
The Rayglass team are intending on running the whole ANDRA Pro Turbo season. Which will require a trip to Perth, a track that they have not raced at previously. “We’re not going there to compete, we’re going there to win mentioned Terry to NZV8”.
