1971 saw the debut of the new third-generation Dodge Charger muscle car. With a complete restyle including a new ‘Pontiac’ grille and more rounded body, it harked back to the Pontiac GTOs of 1968-70. Hidden headlights were no longer standard, but could be ordered as options. A rear spoiler and Ramcharger hood were also options.
The air grabber hood, first seen on the Coronet R/T and Super Bees was implemented for the first time. This consisted of a special scoop (shaker scoop) mounted in the bonnet directly above the air cleaner. The driver could pull a lever to pop up the scoop, channeling clean air directly into the carburettor.
Which brings us to this beauty that we found while trawling the web.
This four-speed 1971 Dodge Charger HEMI is one of just 71 built and one of approximately 10 with the shaker scoop. The colour is relatively rare and all numbers match. It’s been rotisserie restored to #1 condition. It can be yours for $850,000 from Collins Brothers Jeep in the USA. See here for more details.
