Using your cellphone while driving

The Transport Minister is attempting to push through a ban this year on using handheld phones while driving.

• Texting while driving is the big issue and the Government is waiting on advice on penalties.
• The proposal is that there would be a $50 fine and 25 demerit points.
• Vodafone and Telecom support the bans in principal as research indicates talking on a cellphone increases crash risk by over 4 times.
• The way around the ban is to get yourself a hands-free mobile phone kit.

Issue 51 of NZV8 has some of the weirdest and wildest cars we have ever featured. Gracing the cover is Tony Etheridge’s much talked about chopped, tubbed, blown and roof-chopped ‘67 Camaro.
