Harley Davidson to stop building sidecars after 96 years

August 3rd, 2010 by NZV8

Today marks the end of an era for Harley Davidson which has just announced that 2011 will be the final year it offers sidecars as a factory option, and it will no longer accept new orders for them. Harley Davidson has a long history of adding a third outrigger wheel to its line of heavyweight motorcycles, starting way back in 1914. But that’s over now.

The good news is H.D will continue to provide warranty service for current sidecar owners and will stock replacement parts at its dealerships.

While there’s no doubt that sidecars aren’t as popular as they once were, many enthusiasts still have an affection for their offbeat looks. If you fall into this group then Ural and Royal Enfield still have sidecar options for sale. As for Harley, it’s going to focus just on bikes for now.
