Wild Willys from the South

August 11th, 2011 by Lifia

Why hello there fellow V8 readers~

Long time no talk, it seems my absence has been longer than I anticipated, but I return in full swing, this time, capturing the 1941 Wild Willy’s coupe of Johnny and Nigel Alsop!

(Yes, Yes I know I said I was doing John Neilan next, but you can’t rush these things!)

It seems the winter chills froze my creative streak, and for most of these cold months I have been struggling to get my cold hands to draw anything more than silly doodles, having no real idea of what I wanted to capture, Until Ryan (boy, he pops up a lot in my blogs, doesn’t he?) mentioned something about the Alsop Coupe. It went something like:
“Hey Olivia? You know Nigel Alsop?”
“Yeah, Name sounds familiar, why?”
“You know the red Willy’s coupe; yeah he was asking me about your drawings.”

Please don’t quote me on that! Ha-ha anyway that’s how I remember it, and so I pondered a bit about it, before my Dad (Who also features quite a bit here!) told me to hurry up and get in contact and to stop messing around, and so I emailed Nigel and got all the pictures I needed and this is the end result! Hurrah!

In my long, long wish list of classic cars I would like to own, I would have to say the Willy’s coupe is high on my list, I’d say… number 2 to my ’32 Ford!

What I also find highly ironic, is where I work, we sell the Hot Wheels single cars, and on the day I got my first reply from Nigel, we were sent a Willy’s coupe in our load. I’m not an overly supersticious person but it seems that day it was mean to be!

What I love about this car is that it’s different, from the first glance to the last; it screams LOOK AT ME PEOPLE! And never fails to turn heads. The colour scheme is RED with a wicked flame job and the chequered flag around the hindquarters, followed by a few dedicated sponsor stickers placed strategically around the car.

And don’t underestimate those boys from the south either, setting the BB/Altered National Record: 7.13 @ 188 mph. My old Honda struggles to get to 90 kmh on the Motorway… Oh dear. I admitted I own a Honda…

It’s been an absolute pleasure to draw this car; it’s given me a serious challenge on my flame jobs, aswell as attention to detail. I look at this now and would have to say this is my best yet, and I hope to improve as I go, and I also feel privileged to be drawing what I would call the pride of the south!

It seems my red colouring pencil now resides at about… three centimeters. That’s dedication. Though looks like I’ll be needed a new set to colour with…

I hope to see these guys up north here this season, to see the Willy’s at its best. All the best for the upcoming season boys!
